The Design Museum is the world’s leading museum devoted to contemporary design in all its forms, supported by a diverse Commercial & Operations directorate.

As part of our Commercial Transformation 2029 strategy, we have created a new Designer (2D & 3D) role to help deliver our Shop DESIGN, Support CHANGE vision.

This is an exciting opportunity to support the transformation of the retail product offer and deliver consistent design and brand standards across all touchpoints.

About the role

The Designer (2D & 3D) supports the retail team to deliver clear and consistent visual language, developing compelling bespoke merchandise and on‑brand design outputs.

Working closely with Buying, Merchandising, Commercial and Operations, you will help create visually engaging designs that strengthen the commercial offer and drive revenue while enhancing visitor engagement.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Delivering high‑quality 2D and 3D designs for retail product, ecommerce and licensing partners.
  • Supporting the delivery of commercial brand guidelines, ensuring clarity, cohesion and consistent visual language across outputs.
  • Designing and developing museum‑inspired product ranges aligned to briefs, timelines and budgets.
  • Researching trends, materials, market changes and competitor retail to inform product development.
  • Creating packaging, signage, display and presentation materials aligned to brand standards.

Terms and Conditions

Salary: up to £40,120 per annum (dependent on experience)

Holidays: 25 days + Christmas eve (museum closed)

Hours: 35 hours/5 days per week

Location: the Design Museum Kensington is the place of work – with a hybrid arrangement of 60% of an employee’s role to be performed at the museum and 40% remote.
