Wakefield Cathedral
Christ. Culture. Community.
Wakefield Cathedral is looking to appoint a talented, experienced and enthusiastic individual as our choir singing tutor. This role supports the Director and Assistant Director of Music in providing young people with healthy vocal technique and regular singing lessons to help our singers develop their skills. You will teach one-on-one or in small groups, supporting our singers in preparing for regular services, including solo work, preparing for Royal School of Church of Music exams, and supporting their broader musical development.
Wakefield Cathedral has a busy music department, with various choirs offering singing opportunities to children aged 6 to 18. The singing teacher will work primarily with the choristers, boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 14, and the youth choir, aged 14 to 18. You will be an outstanding vocal tutor with a proven record of working with young people and a comprehensive knowledge of vocal pedagogy and vocal health, as well as basic keyboard skills so that you can accompany singers during lessons.
The singing teacher will be expected to attend on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 16:30 and 18:00, although we understand that this role is likely to form part of a portfolio career, so occasional absences for professional engagements would usually be permitted by prior agreement with the Director of Music.
Wakefield Cathedral takes its responsibility for the safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults very seriously and their welfare is paramount in all areas of cathedral life. Details of our safeguarding policies and practices can be found here. Because this role involves regulated activity with children and young people, appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Confidential Declaration and Enhanced Disclosure with Barring checks from the Disclosure and Barring Service. Appointment will be subject to three satisfactory references and satisfactory proof of the candidate’s right to work in the United Kingdom.
