Salary: £20,100 (£33,500 FTE)

Working hours: Part time, 22.5 hours a week (0.6 FTE)

About the role
As one of two in-house Graphic Designers you’ll manage, shape and deliver We The Curious’ graphic design output. You’ll act as brand guardian, ensuring everything produced is in line with our brand guidelines and developed alongside the needs of the organisation and our audiences.
Part of our audience team, you’ll work alongside and line manage our Junior Designer. You’ll also collaborate with other teams and colleagues across the organisation to problem solve, concept, present and execute a variety of design solutions.
You’ll manage multiple projects, ensuring smooth project delivery across a broad range of outputs including printed materials, digital graphics and interfaces, branded merchandise, motion graphics, exhibit interpretation, wayfinding and signage.
Role specific responsibilities
1. Line manage, support and develop our Junior Designer (please note this role is being recruited in autumn 2025). Manage the graphic design team workflow and delegate/collaborate as appropriate.
2. Act as a brand guardian for the organisation, ensuring our brand is applied correctly and consistently. Build on existing brand guidelines, branded templates and brand workshops to support teams in creating simple on-brand assets and develop internal understanding of our brand identity.
3. Oversee a wide range of graphic design projects, from conception to delivery. This includes sourcing quotes and commissioning external suppliers where appropriate, such as printers and photographers.
4. Manage graphic design requests and support the output of graphic materials. Consult on and discuss briefs, offering innovative creative solutions that follow our brand guidelines. Liaise with necessary teams to ensure the graphic aspects of the project satisfy the brief.
5. Ensure all printed materials, online graphics, branded merchandise, motion graphics, exhibit interpretation, internal/external signage are produced on time, to budget and meet audience needs.
6. Ensure all materials follow access, inclusivity and sustainability guidelines.
7. Manage the print production process and print collateral. Ensure work meets the spec of the brief and has received relevant sign off. Approve artwork proofs, oversee deliveries and co-ordinate the installation of graphics on-site. Maintain excellent working relationships with our suppliers.
8. Proactively undertake creative research to inform projects and brand development. Horizon-scan and keep up to date with relevant trends and practices.

What we’re looking for from you
1. Considerable professional experience as a Graphic Designer – whether in-house, in an agency or freelance.
2. Considerable experience of working with brand guidelines, ensuring consistent application and supporting others with their implementation
3. Considerable experience in a wide variety of print design and print processes, including lithographic, digital, large-format and direct-to-substrate, outputting artwork to a high standard.
4. Demonstrable experience of digital design, current technologies and best practice.
5. Strong visual and verbal communication skills – able to present new ideas or concepts, explaining the rationale behind graphic design decisions and recommendations. Able to use diplomacy and negotiating skills to develop mutually beneficial solutions.
6. Strong people skills – demonstrable experience of managing people, suppliers and/or clients. Able to line manage, support and develop a more junior member of the team. Able to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Strong time management skills – ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise the graphic design team’s workload within an ongoing, ever-changing and progressive environment.
8. Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills – both visual and technical.
9. Good awareness of design trends, AI developments and creative thinking.
10. Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite with strong illustrative skills.
