Japan House London seeks the next generation of Non-Executive Directors to join their Board and help shape the cultural home of Japan in the UK.

Time commitment: 16 days per year

About the organisation

Japan House London (JHL) serves as the cultural home of Japan in the UK. They present the very best of Japanese art, design, gastronomy, innovation and technology, providing guests with an experience that is both engaging and surprising.

Their three-storey building includes a gallery for seasonal exhibitions, a hall for events and workshops, a curated shop, a library and the AKIRA Restaurant. JHL is free and open to everyone, acting as a forum for creative and intellectual exchange between Japan.

About the role

Japan House London is seeking visionary Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) to join their Board.

They are specifically looking for individuals to chair the Audit & Risk Committee (ARC) and the Remuneration & Nominations Committee (RNC).

The successful candidates will play a pivotal role in growing international audiences, fostering new partnerships between the UK and Japan, and ensuring the future sustainability of Japan House London.

Who we are looking for

You must possess high financial literacy and the ability to interpret and challenge complex financial information. Strong relationship-building skills are vital to introduce new UK and Japanese partners across government, corporate, and cultural sectors.

The ideal candidates will have:

  • For the Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee: Expertise in financial reporting, compliance, risk management and government affairs.
  • For the Chair of the Remuneration & Nominations Committee: Deep knowledge of HR, employee relations and corporate governance practices.
  • A deep understanding of or passion for Japanese culture and UK-Japanese relations.
  • Experience in retail, marketing, digital content, or the hospitality sector.
  • The ability to navigate diplomatic sensitivities while driving commercial growth.
